Sounds like things are backwards

I would have thought that if the company that has been sold off is already part of the new company, then one of the first things that they should have done was move them to Exchange, rather than having you come up with an interim solution.

What about a Global Domain document? We have one that has multiple domains listed. I still think this is going to be harder than you think. They are now part of another company's email domain. Their MX records aren't going to be pointing to your server, but to their server. I think you may have to keep them on the email server you have them on, restrict their access to just email. If they complain that they can't send mail out under their new email address, then that becomes an issue for the email admin at the new company who has to get them migrated over to Exchange.

I don't really have any other ideas for you, sorry.
